Guide To Screening Candidates

4-step guide to screening and shortlisting the right candidates for your company.

Now that you have put up some good job posts and applications are streaming in, the next step is to decide which candidates you would like to meet and potentially hire.

"52% of talent acquisition leaders said the most difficult part of recruitment is identifying the right candidates from a large applicant pool"

At Workclass, we recognise how overwhelming it can be to screen through all the applications and figure out who the best candidates are.

As such, here is a 4-step guide from us to help ease your screening and shortlisting process!

1. Ask a screening question

To make your screening process more efficient, we highly recommend using our screening question function.

Type in a question relevant to the job requirements, and set answers that would deem candidates suitable or unsuitable for the job. Our system will automatically qualify or disqualify candidates based on their response to your screening question.

To get here: Sign in to your account > Go to "My Jobs" > Click on the "Post a Job" button

2. View screening outcomes

Take an initial look at the candidates that have applied to your job posts.

If you have made use of our screening question feature, the filtered candidates can be found in the "Qualified" section. If you have not, you may view all the candidates under the "New" section.

To get here: Sign in to your account > Go to "My Jobs" > Click on one of your job posts

3. Assess suitability of candidates

Determine whether the candidates are suitable for the job by looking at their past experience.

To make the shortlisting process easier for you, candidates who match the job requirements best are shown at the top of the page. Also, those found to have the relevant job experience are tagged "work experience". For easy reference, the 3 most recent jobs of each candidate are clearly displayed.

To get here: Sign in to your account > Go to "My Jobs" > Click on one of your job posts

4. Contact shortlisted candidates

Reach out to the shortlisted candidates to arrange an interview.

Simply click on the "View Full Profile" button to access their phone number and email. For the best response rate, we recommend giving the shortlisted candidates a call (See: Tips for Calling Candidates).

Do try to drop them a text as well, as some candidates are not as open to receiving calls. At Workclass, we automatically call job seekers (up to 3 times) and take note whether the job seeker picks up the phone. This is displayed on the employer job portal to help you assess the likelihood of them answering your calls.

To get here: Sign in to your account > Go to "My Jobs" > Click on one of your job posts
